Clarity of Purpose: Unleashing the Momentum Within
I've been contemplating intentions lately and the profound power they hold. It might sound like an exaggeration to claim that there's no force in the Universe capable of hindering a person with clarity of intention. I acknowledge the Universe's complexity, surpassing my understanding, so let me express it differently— the Universe bows down to those individuals with a clear sense of purpose and intent. When one possesses a crystal-clear intent, willpower takes a back seat, requiring less exertion and struggle, if any.
To reach this state, the intention must stem from a place of profound understanding and perception. This involves deep self-knowledge, a complete grasp of one's thoughts, beliefs, and values. It requires understanding your life with its priorities, needs, and responsibilities—knowing what can be compromised and what cannot. A comprehensive understanding of the facts surrounding your life enables insights to emerge, guiding both intention and subsequent action. As Jiddu Krishnamurti aptly puts it, seeing and doing occur simultaneously.
Where, then, does willpower fit in? A fully realized intention carries its own momentum. In physics, what halts a moving body? External force, or what we call "friction." Newton's laws of motion dictate that a body persists in its state of motion unless acted upon by an external force. Once your insight and understanding set you in motion, involuntary thoughts may act as the friction on your path. Do not let these thoughts impede your momentum. Acknowledge them as they arise, addressing them if they convey essential information. Otherwise, recognize them as fleeting clouds in the vast expanse of the sky—they will dissipate just as they appeared.
It's crucial to recognize that the foundation of thought is memory. Memory, an accumulation of knowledge, hurts, and experiences, categorized as pleasurable or painful, prompts the brain to turn to thought when faced with relevant situations. Thought, a product of memory, is integral to many aspects of our lives, including work, planning, and executing daily tasks. However, it shouldn't dictate all our actions. Then it acts like a software program which is constantly running in your psyche and controlling every move of yours. Memory is absolutely important in a humans life and there is no denying its value. But the human is in charge. The human brain decides when to seek its assistance and when to be fully attuned to the environment, responding based on insight and understanding derived from a comprehensive grasp of the present moment.
Can a machine ever do that? AI systems are trained on enormous data and it learns its patterns and responds accordingly. But humans have the ability to be spontaneously creative and act based on insight and not memory/data. Isn't that the most basic and essential difference between Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence? Can AI ever generate an action not based on its data and patterns? Not that we know of as of now.
