Volunteering

These ideas are inspired by this one quote by Sri Ramakrishna:

"God is everywhere but He is most manifest in man. So serve man as God. That is as good as worshiping God."


The best way to get started is to write down the ideals and then take up ideas which will fulfill them.

Our ideals here are as follows:

1. Work for a good cause

2. Expect nothing in return. The work done will be entirely voluntary...no obligations.

3. Impart your knowledge and ideas. Education goes a long long way in people's lives. Helping someone is one thing but imparting knowledge and making them independent so that the help lasts with them forever will be the highest thing.

4. Build up self-confidence in individuals. Swami Vivekananda says that every individual is potentially divine. We just need to manifest that divinity within ourselves. Higher self esteem, higher morals will help people take their lives and goals to a higher level.

5. Work Work Work....incesssantly.


The best way to achieve these is to participate in the volunteer activities in and around the area you live in. So this community is for people living in Phoenix, AZ.Following are the things/issues we can start helping with:

1. Tutoring kids that struggle with Maths, English.

2. Organizing food and clothes drive for homeless families, especially those that have been affected by the recent economic turmoil.

3. Organizing blood donation camps or bone marrow drive, etc. Donate blood yourselves.

4. Helping women that have been physically or mentally abused. Increase their morale, spread your happiness amongst them.

5. Helping the physically disabled. Teach them a skill that we know which can help them generate income for themselves. I do not know how can this be done here in US.

6. Helping senior citizens with their daily chores. The organization that can help us achieve this goal is AIL. I have been volunteering with them for the past 2 months.

7. Help with the hospitals and the Red Cross. This is basically helping people with disaster relief. Here is the link: http://www.arizonaredcross.org/

8. Monthly donations will help a lot too.

9. Sponsor a child's education in India or anywhere you like.


There will be many other opportunities and we have to search for them online. But these have been a few thoughts from the top of my head. Many of these ideas and ideals have been taken from my friend's organization called "ASMITA". She works for similar causes, but the ones that are more relevant to India. She lives in Pune. Let me thank her for her wonderful work and her ideals.

And let me thank Swami Vivekananda for being my greatest inspiration with everything good that I will ever do in my life.
